Being a member of a medical scheme comes with additional benefits when travelling out of South Africa. The process is simple, let FPM know when, where and for how long you will be out of SA and we will notify your medical scheme as well as provide you with a letter to carry with you giving details of benefits available to you and who to contact.

The way it works is when travelling abroad and you find yourself in need of medical assistance, you can visit a provider, pay for services upfront and when you return to South Africa claim the expenses back from the medical scheme in line with your benefits. However in the event of an emergency the country you are in may proceed with providing care as long as you have your letter confirming medical scheme coverage while travelling.

These benefits are in place for 90 days after departing South Africa, thereafter your medical scheme will no longer provide cover while travelling.
